Sweet Nothings

Happy Easter Everyone!

Last weekend we gathered at Stone Cross for the Cardinal Colours Spring Weekend Crop. On the Sunday I taught my Sweet Nothings Class.

Here is the page I designed:

The bride is Vicki who married my nephew Mark last summer.

I drew a sketch from my layout

The kit contained -
1 sheet Patterned paper Kaiser Craft - Sweet Nothings – Silver lining,
1 sheet Bazzill Cardstock – Saguaro,
1m x 6mm Olive satin ribbon,
Woodware Chippies – die cut chipboard alphabet,
3 Pre-made cream crochet flowers and 1 butterfly (4ply Patons Fairytale Dreamer – pure wool),
6 Wired dusky pink paper roses,
6 Wired leaves,
Pink felt,
DMC thread,
10 pearl beads,
Pink double knitting wool
Instructions
& 2 Templates.

Also used - Crackle medium, Kaiser Craft acrylic paint in beige and olive, Sizzix and dies,
The photograph needed to be large enough to cut the main image into a 6 ¾” (17 cm) circle.

I made paper templates for cutting the photo and the scalloped mount from a Technique Tuesday shape.

The paper could be used in any orientation with the flowers in any of the four corners. Use a craft knife to cut along the edge of the floral elements then tuck the mounted photo underneath so the leaves flow over the photo.

Flowers

I crochet the flowers to save time in class. I adapted a pattern found in Molly Makes magazine.
Then using pink felt and Sizzix cut the smallest flower using the Sizzix Originals Paper Sculpting Hydrangea die.

With DMC thread stitch the felt flower to the centre of each crochet flower, Make long stitches radiating from the centres. Cut two pieces of ribbon about 2 cm long. Loop these and attach to either side, just under the felt flower with a few small stitches. Add a bead to the centre. Arrange and stick the flowers to the layout. You could stitch or glue them in place.

Take 4 of the paper roses and twist the wires round a pencil shaft to make a coil. Arrange and stick the roses in place around the crochet flowers. Embellish the flowers with a selection of leaves, wires and pearls. Cut wire from 3 of the leaves near the base and set wires to one side for later. Shape the leaves by bending the wire that runs through the centre. Arrange around the crochet flowers and stick or sew in place.

Take the wires cut from the leaves. Coil these in the same way as before. Add a little glue to one end and thread on a pearl. With a tiny bit of wire showing through, bend this over to help keep pearl in place. Arrange and stick these in place with the roses and leaves.

Butterfly
Take the crochet butterfly (also ready prepared and from Molly Makes Pattern) and a small length of pink wool. Tie the wool around the butterfly twice to form the body and knot at the top, trim to leave antennae.

Arrange this on the photo mount, overlapping the photo slightly, on the opposite side of the circle to the flowers. This is a good time to arrange your title letters so your butterfly doesn’t end up in the middle of a word. Once this is done, stick your butterfly in place. As before, add paper roses, wired leaves and beads.

Title

Select the letters needed for your title. Trim off the knobbly bits where the letters were originally attached to the card you selected them from. Paint letters with base colour, leave to dry for 10 minutes. Paint your letters with crackle medium, leave to dry for 20 – 40 minutes. Paint your letters with top colour and leave to dry and crackle.  Arrange your letters onto your layout and stick in place.

Thank you to those who took this class. Please comment with a link, or email with an image and I will add to the bottom of this post. It would be lovely to see you completed layouts.
